NEW STATE POLICE BENEFITS - BLOOD BANK

  • WHAT IS THE BLOOD BANK?
  • The Blood Bank of Delaware/Eastern Shore is a non-profit organization providing over 100,000 units of blood to hospitals in Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland each year.  Members receive coverage in exchange for supporting the Blood Bank through blood donations.

  • WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

  • If you or anyone covered by your membership uses blood, the Blood Bank will replace it or pay the cost of replacing it. While health insurance plans cover testing and processing fees, the cost of blood is usually not covered.

  • WHAT IS ASKED OF YOU?
  • Members are required to take a turn providing blood once every two years either themselves or by having someone donate blood on their behalf or by paying a $30 fee (the cost of replacing one pint of blood).

  • ANNUAL FEE
  • The Annual Fee is paid for by the retirement fund. Normally the Blood Bank's annual fee is $5. For those age 65 and over, the fee is only $2 after the first year. The fee helps support the cost of operating the Blood Bank, a non-profit organization.
